Home Made Gift Ideas

Ever been out at the shops for hours looking for that perfect Christmas or Birthday gift and just cant find anything that suits your values, budget and that you know will warm that special person’s heart? I would much rather spend that time making a homemade gift. This way you know what is in it, where it comes from and that it will be healthy and enjoyed.

Give the gift to unwind with the invigorating and cleansing aromas of an essential oil bath, the option to scrub away a stressful week with a Lovely Lavender Bath Scrub or indulging in the sweet flavour of Honeycomb Sweets jam-packed with nature's most sumptuous nectar, you will find that these seven versatile and vibrant recipes will add a little exotic touch to that special someone’s life that is both natural and highly beneficial.

1. Sugar body scrub

1.25 Cup organic brown sugar
1.5 Teaspoon Lemon Zest
5 Drops organic lemon essential oil
0.5 Cup organic olive oil
1 Tablespoon Honey

Method:
Mix everything together and package in a pretty recycled glass jar.  Make sure the jar has a lid that closes tightly to ensure the essential oils don’t evaporate.

2. Salt Body Scrub

0.5 Cup Himalayan Crystal Salt (not too fine)
0.5 Cup Organic Olive Oil
1 Teaspoon dried lavender flowers
5 Drops Organic Lavender essential oil

Method:
Mix everything together and package in a pretty recycled glass jar.  Make sure the jar has a lid that closes tightly to ensure the essential oils don’t evaporate.

3. Peanut Brittle sweets

30ml Organic/free range butter
375 ml Organic sugar
125 ml Golden syrup or Honey
Pinch of salt
125 ml Water
250ml Roasted organic peanuts
1 ml Bicarbonate of soda
5 ml Vanilla essence

Method:
Melt the butter in a saucepan and add sugar, syrup, salt and water.
Boil until the mixture turns brittle when tested in cold water. Add the peanuts, bicarb and vanilla. Pour mixture into a buttered pan or muffin pan to make sweets. Let cool and break into pieces. Pack in a brown paper back and tie pretty ribbons around.

4. Honeycomb sweets

200g Organic sugar
350g Golden syrup or Honey
1 Tblsp Vinegar
1 Tblsp Bicarbonate of soda

Method:
Combine sugar, syrup/honey and vinegar in large saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Continue to cook until the mixture turns brittle when tested in cold water. Remove from heat, stir in the bicarb quickly (the mixture will become frothy). Immediately pour into the buttered tin. Allow to cool, break into pieces.

5. Bath Salts

1 cup Epsom salts
1 cup Coarse Himalayan crystal salt
2 Tblsp baking soda
5 drops Organic Lemon essential oil
4 drops Organic Sweet orange essential oil

Method:
Mix everything together and decant into glass jars (make sure the lid seals well to keep the fragrance)

6. Bath oil

1 Cup of your preferred carrier oil (Rosehip or Sweet almond are good choices)
25 – 35 Drops of your preferred essential oil

Method:
Pour half the carrier oil in your bottle, followed by the essential oil. Shake to mix well and then pour in the rest of the carrier oil. Shake again. Remember to use a glass bottle that seals well. There is really no limit to your choices here; you can mix any fragrance you choose ☺

7. Seed Bombs

This is a great gift for anyone who loves gardening.

Mix soil, compost and clay powder. Add water to make thick mud and form small balls. Make sure the balls are pretty firm. Press a few seeds into each ball, and then shape and press until compact. Dry the balls out on newspaper and leave for a few days. These can then be used to sow in the garden, especially hard to reach places.
