We recently became the proud parents of an adorable little baby boy. As all you parents out there already know, these little guys demand lots of time and leave little time for things like blogging and doodling around. But now that we’ve settled in, things are going back to normal. Or should I say, we are settling into our new normal. Our new normal has provided us the opportunity to use the natural baby products we sell on the Greenlove store. Allow me to shamelessly punt these great baby products to you as I share my first hand experiences using them.

So far I’ve used the Bio Baba cloth diapers, yip you heard me, cloth! For cleaning I’m using Pure Beginnings wet wipes, baby shampoo and for moisturizer the Bloublommetjies coconut oil and bum balm.

1. Bio Baba Reusable Nappies

Bio Baba Reusable Nappies
Two products I use on a regular basis is the Bio Baba reusable cloth nappies and Pure Beginnings wet wipes. Most people who heard I was going the cloth diaper route was all doom and gloom, saying ‘good luck with that!’

I’ve been using cloth nappies for a month now and in my opinion, they require a little more effort but the peace of mind I have by knowing that I am not contributing to the disposable nappy dilemma makes it all worthwhile. Conservatively speaking, if I used disposables, I would have dumped 240 toxic diapers on our landfills by now. Not only do I have peace of mind but we’re also saving money in the long run.

As many of you may know, disposables take hundreds of years to decompose while polluting our water tables. Plus if you don’t throw out the poop before you dump it in the bin you might aid in creating health hazards. Calculate how many nappies one baby uses during its entire infancy. Multiply that amount of nappies with thousands or millions of babies. Now imagine how huge that heap of nappies must be.

I wash the nappies every second day, which is easy enough since the invention of the automatic washing machine. To wash I use Bloublommetjies Laundry Liquid and a couple of drops of Tea Tree Oil to disinfect. Pop the booster pads in the tumble drier if it is not warm enough to dry outside and hang the diapers. They dry very quickly and are ready for use in no time.

2. Non-Toxic Natural Wet Wipes

The Pure Beginnings wet wipes are just to handy. They’re super convenient when I’m out and about. At home I will either use a wet cotton cloth, toilet paper, or both when required. The Pure Beginnings wet wipes are quite moist and this helps makes cleaning easier. The clean fresh scent helps dampen the other lurking aromas. Unlike other wet wipes, these wet wipes doesn’t dry out your baby’s skin at all.

3. Baby Shampoo & Wash

Pure Beginnings Baby Shampoo and Body WashAlthough I give my baby a bath every evening I use Pure Beginnings baby shampoo & wash every second evening. He’s so cute and remarkably calm when the lukewarm water envelops his little body. The baby wash has a heavenly refreshing scent and increases cuddles dramatically! Its liquid form makes it easy to use. I’ll be trying out some of our baby soap bars soon. It really makes me happy to know that I am not using any harsh chemicals on his skin.

4. Natural Baby Oil

Bloublommetjies Coconut OilAfter bath time, I rub and massage him with Bloublommetjies coconut oil. This is very good for anybody’s skin and has anti-fungal, antibacterial and soothing properties among many others. It is perfect for baby skin that is prone to eczema and other skin conditions.

5. Natural Baby Balm

Bloublommetjies Natural Baby BalmWhen needed, I use the Bloublommetjies bum balm on his ‘boudtjies’. I even use some on his face, as his cheeks tend to get a bit dry. This is a great natural product with the wonderful healing properties of honey and calendula. This is a perfect product for grown ups too, use on chapped lips, heels, elbows, anywhere!

We’ve only had him for a month, so I’m pretty sure I’ll be using more of the baby products in the near future. Things like SOIL rose geranium hydrosol for all those cuts and scrapes from climbing trees, Badger sunblock for the sunny days at the beach, Pure Beginnings kiddies toothpaste for that first tooth and many more adventures in odyssey still lay before us.

Enjoy your little ones!

  1. I absolutely love using natural and organic baby products on my twins! it just feels right. I have recently found the most amazing baby bum balm and baby wax from Oh-Lief Natural baby products, and love the fact that it is made from 100% raw ingredient! Thanks for a great blog…

      Hi Suly

Yes, its great to use a product and know you can have 100% peace of mind that it wont harm your kiddies 🙂
Thanks for the compliment, we are so glad you enjoy it!

  2. Hi! I’m wondering how you are going with using the Bloublommetjies Laundry Liquid on cloth nappies. Do you still like it? Did you ever have stink problems? I just bought a whole bunch of cloth nappies from the US and we are living in Namibia. I could not find any washing products here that do not contain tons of junky additives! I saw the laundry liquid the other day and would really love to know if it does the job. It’s not too expensive and seems really nice!

Do you use their fabric softener as well? THANK YOU!!

    • Carien

The Bloublommetjies Laundry liquid is great, I must be honest that I switch around a lot between the brands we stock and my favourite at this stage is the Earthsap laundry powder https://www.greenlove.co.za/products/Laundry-Powder-2.2kg.html. I don’t use any fabric softener as this normally hinders the absorbency of the nappies.

To tackle the stinkyness, you can add about a cup of white vinegar to your wash every now and then (when necessary), this will strip them from any smells lingering 🙂

If you can’t find what you are looking for in Namibia, you can always order online and we will send it to you via postal.

      Hope this helps!
