Coconut oil should be considered the eighth wonder of the world!
It is an incredibly versatile commodity and the beneficial uses seem endless.

If you are not yet using coconut oil for your daily cooking and body care needs, you’re missing out on one of nature’s most prestigious health foods!

Here are 10 uses and health benefits of coconut oil you might not have known about:

1. Skin Moisturiser:

Coconut oil works wonderfully as a full body moisturiser. The fat in the oil helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Just apply to your skin and rub in. Easy peasy ☺

If you want a more luxurious moisturising experience, here’s a recipe to try out:

Honey and Coconut oil body moisturizer
2 tablespoons coconut oil (extra-virgin, unrefined)
1 tablespoon of your favorite raw honey
2 drops vanilla, peppermint, or sweet orange essential oil (optional)

In a small bowl, mix together all ingredients.
Take a couple of bath towels (enough to cover your body) and dampen them with hot water (as hot as possible while still comfortable for you to touch). Get in the tub and rub the honey mixture over your body, lie back and cover yourself with the hot towels. Relax, and enjoy until the towels are cool and you are ready to rinse. Rinse and pat yourself dry. Radiant moisturised skin ☺

2. Stress:

Relieve mental fatigue by applying coconut oil to your head while massaging in circular motion. The natural smell of coconuts is very soothing and will help lower your stress levels. You can even use it as a massage oil for the whole body….. good idea for the weekend ☺

3. Digestion:

The saturated fats in coconut oil have anti-bacterial properties that help control parasites and fungi that cause indigestion and other digestion related problems such as irritable bowel syndrome. The fat in coconut oil also aids in the absorption of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, making you healthier all around. You can use coconut oil in all your cooking, replacing your normal butter or sunflower oil. It can also be used instead of butter on bread.

4. Fitness and weight-loss:

Coconut oil has been proven to stimulate your metabolism, improve thyroid function, and increase energy levels, all of which help decrease your unwanted fat, while increasing muscle. Because of this, coconut oil has shot to popularity by being the world’s only natural low-calorie fat.

5. Healing:

Apply a layer of coconut oil to scrapes and cuts. The oil forms a thin layer, which protects the wound from outside dust, bacteria and viruses. Coconut oil speeds up the healing process by repairing damaged tissues.

6. Hair Care:

Coconut oil is one of the best hair and scalp conditioners I know. From a young age my mum has used coconut oil on my hair. Massage a bit of oil onto your scalp and comb through your hair at bedtime. Cover with a shower cap or just put a towel on your cushion and leave the oil in your hair over night. Wash very well the next morning to get rid of all the oil. Your hair will never have looked better ☺

7. Eyes:

Eye cream – apply under the eyes to reduce puffiness, bags, and wrinkles. Use on the lids in the evening.

8. For the guys – Shaving Cream

Use as a pre-shave skin prep. Coconut oil is a great to use as preparation for the pending damage caused by shaving.

9. For the guys – Aftershave

Use coconut oil as an aftershave. Coconut oil will help heal your skin after shaving without clogging pores. You can even ad a couple of drops of essential oil, like lavender, to enhance its skin healing properties.

10. Teeth:

There are numerous toothpaste recipes out there containing coconut oil, but here is a easy one: just mix coconut oil and baking soda and dab a little of the mix on your toothbrush. For extra freshness you can add a couple of drops of peppermint and tea tree essential oils.

Hope you enjoy trying these out and reaping all the health benefits!
